Fort Drum is a United States Army installation located in northern New York, near the city of Watertown. Named after Lieutenant General Hugh A. Drum, the fort covers over 107,000 acres and is home to the 10th Mountain Division, a light infantry division specialized in mountainous and arctic warfare.
Originally established in 1908 as Pine Camp, the installation was used for training and maneuvers and was expanded during World War II to accommodate the increasing number of troops. In 1951, the camp was renamed Camp Drum in honor of Lieutenant General Hugh A. Drum, and in 1974 it was designated a permanent military installation and renamed Fort Drum.
